Yuletide 2019 Dear Creator Letter

I’m super excited for this! I do have some general things, as well as some fandom-specific things I’d like to see.

 

General info

first of all, i’d be perfectly happy to receive fic in any of the following languages: English, German, French. some short bits of actual Russian or Yiddish dialogue is also fine, but I don’t think I can read a whole fic in either of those languages.

 

I’d also be happy to receive any gift at any rating, as long as it doesn’t violate any DNWs (so, yes, smut is welcome)

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.

Ships / Characters:

• Alex/Henry (obviously)
• Nora/June or June/Pez
• Bea! (ideally with some gorgeous girlfriend)
• I’d also be interested to see something about Liam (potentially with his boyfriend? Or with Alex?)
• Honestly, I’m not super invested in the parents or Rafael Luna.

Likes:

• For this fandom: canon compliant or canon divergent AUs, mostly. I feel like a lot of Alex and Henry’s relationship is tied to their circumstances, and while I like to believe they’d be together in any universe, I don’t think they’d act the same way with each other (but if you’d like to explore that, feel free)
• Honestly, I’d also kill for a Hogwarts AU (Ravenclaw Henry, no matter what Alex says)
• I’d kill for a Nora Chanukah party tbh!

Dislikes:

• Beyond the above DNW / Squicks / Triggers, I really can’t think of much fandom-specific except for some reason, the fandom has decided Henry is the kind of person who not only reads a ton of YA in his 20s (and tbh i can’t talk) but who also recommends it to random people, which I feel like he…. Would not.
• Also, like, Alex is super smart, y’all, so please no “lol Alex is a dumb jock” stuff. He’s got undiagnosed ADHD and he managed not just to get into Georgetown, but also do well there, and also pass the LSATs and (iirc) get into NYU Law? He’s definitely got tunnel vision when it comes to his passions (politics, Henry, arguing) but he’s super smart!

The Secret History by Donna Tartt

**important note**: y’all can do pagan shit for TSH as long as it’s proper Greek gods, and not like neo-pagan appropriating a dozen world religions. Because their belief in Greek gods is sort of… important to the story, so that does override one DNW on my list.

 

Ships / Characters:

• The characters I requested are Francis and Richard
• I don’t think any of them have remotely healthy relationships with each other or with other people, but I love Francis (and Richard, too, though I’m less likely to admit that)
• Judy Poovey is the party queen and I adore her

Likes:

• I honestly just love how fucked up their entire codependent unit is. This is one fandom where you can lay on the fucked up shit and I’m 100% here for it
• I love the idea of Francis being Richard’s bi/gay awakening, but I don’t think it’d be a super healthy relationship
• I’d like to see something done about the intertextuality of it all (namely Richard’s fake backstory basically being Bret Easton Ellis’s real life backstory)
   

Dislikes:

• I don’t think a HEA is possible for most of these characters (at most… staying together or coming back together because of shared trauma)

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Ships / Characters:

• I love Kitsey Barbour (who is the one character I requested), and like, honestly
• Also Andy.
• And I like Theo a lot, too
• The fandom’s sort of soured me on Boris/Theo (at least in any sort of romantic idea) but if you want to lay on a shit ton of internalised homophobia and fucked up codependency with them, go right ahead!

Likes:

• Low-key satirizing the kind of Old New York Money rich people the Barbours are
• Andy and his anime
• Kitsey just in general.
• I’d like to see what might have happened if Theo had stayed with the Barbours (i.e. his dad died before his mom / at least before he came to pick him up) or if he’d gone back to them after he’d come back to New York
• I’d also like to see Theo having a healthy friendship with Pippa (and Kitsey, too, for that matter). Like, not being obsessed with her, but having an actual healthy friendship based on liking her as a person.
• I’m always here to see Theo not acknowledging his crush on Tom was a crush and instead just being super fucking bitter about everything about Tom and repressing it until it all comes bubbling up to the surface.

Dislikes:

• Again: I don’t think a HEA is possible for Boris and Theo, but… hey, I’d kill to see what a HEA would look for for Kitsey
• Not super interested in Vegas-era stuff because that sort of thing already was most of my adolescence and I feel like the book did it sufficient justice.

Derry Girls

Ships / Characters:

• Listen: I love James (only requested character for this fandom). He’s a dick, but I love him. (Honestly, I love the whole crew; I’d be happy with fic of any of them, but James is my boy)
• Michelle and James are honestly my two faves. Don’t ask me why. They just are.
• I don’t really ship James with any of the guys in the cast, but I don’t read him as straight, so feel free to do something with that
• That said, I also do like James/Erin
• Het is ok for this fandom provided it’s, like, Michelle or Erin getting some (or Erin/James), and not like… Clare with a boy, though that said…
• I’d love to see Clare get a girlfriend!
   

Likes:

• I like the idea of Clare and James bonding over being not straight, but I feel like the way a lot of the fandom does it is sort of twee and modern in a way that makes no sense for the 90s (and also… not for Catholics.)
• James realizing his crush on Father Peter is an actual crush (and not just admiration)
• Cousinly bonding between Michelle and James?
• Honestly also I’d kill for something about James and his nerd friends
• Maybe something set during / after uni? Or in their 20s?

Dislikes:

• James being overly effeminate (he’s not the most masculine, but still)
• Like an angsty, serious focus on the Troubles. Or just angst in general for this series.

The Turner Series by Cat Sebastian

Ships / Characters:

• I love all of the characters, and have loved every canon ship in the series
• That said, I’m pretty sure George/Lawrence is my favourite pairing in the series
   

Likes:

• Period accuracy & HEA; I’m not super picky with this fandom!
• Maybe something set after the novels’ HEA?
   

Dislikes:

• I don’t want any angst for this, and please adhere to the general DNWs above, but beyond that, I’m happy with anything!

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue series by Mackenzi Lee

Ships / Characters:

• I requested Johanna for this fandom, but like, if you would rather write Monty/Percy, that’s also fine with me!
• Monty/Percy (and Monty and Percy in general)
• Felicity/Johanna (and both of them in general, as well)

Likes:

• Monty and Percy either between the events of Gentleman’s Guide and Lady’s Guide, or after the events of Lady’s Guide
• Felicity and Johanna meeting back up and falling in love!
• Felicity and Johanna going on adventures (platonically or romantically)
• Max the dog having a prominent role!
• Felicity and Johanna as kids!
• What Johanna was up to in Germany!
• Monty’s time at Eton (Sinjon! Bonus points for split POV with Percy pining)
   

Dislikes:

• Focusing on Felicity being aro/ace (if you wanna read it as internalised homophobia, like I do, and go off that, then go ahead, or if you see her that way and don’t make it a major plot point, that’s fine)
• Felicity’s “polite” homophobia toward Monty and Percy (i.e. “they’re going against god” or whatever she goes on about in Lady’s Guide)
• Please please don’t focus on the abuse Monty’s father inflicts on him!
